So I’ve been given a chance by my cool brother to test out Roccat’s mobile gaming mouse called the Pyra.  And after playing with it for a few hours, here are some of my impressions. Keep in mind that I only tried the Wired Pyra, not the Wireless one.

Pyra

First thing I noticed was it’s packaging. It was professional, neatly packed, and small. I liked it really. I even took a picture of it. It’s not really THAT special but I just want to let you guys have an idea.

Box

Once you open the box, you’ll notice a free bag for your Pyra(which is awesome by the way) aside from the usual stuff like CD drivers and/or Manuals. I read that you’ll also get a Roccat ID so that you can join the Roccat online community but sadly, I didn’t get any. Maybe it’s with my Bro. Anyway, about the bag… It’s almost the same bag/pouch you get when you buy an Oakley sunglass or something. It’s made of silk, I think. And the mouse perfectly fits in it allowing you to carry your Pyra wherever you go, like a douche geek.

size

As you can see it’s a little bit smaller than my Nokia phone but large enough to feel comfortable when using it. I’m… somewhat of a big guy. So if the size doesn’t bother me, it probably won’t bother you either. Above all, its not called a mobile gaming mouse for no reason.

The mouse has 5 buttons. The standard left, right, mousewheel buttons with an addition of side buttons on each side. It might not be enough for “hardcore” gamers but it’s more than enough for casual gamers like me.

After installing the drivers, I played  Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare just to test it out(for the record, I’m quite good at this game). And honestly, I was struggling around the first 10 minutes in-game. It wasn’t because the mouse had problems. It was because I got used to playing with my Copperhead mouse that it felt really awkward. Of course, I’m reviewing a mobile gaming mouse, not a full sized mouse. But after a few more minutes playing, my hand got used it and I started doing good.

The mouse has three DPI settings to choose from. You can choose from 400, 800, to 1600 depending on your personal preference. But it doesn’t allow you to change your DPI settings on the fly though. It also doesn’t have any buttons underneath to change profiles/DPI. All changes must be made in their software. This might annoy me sometimes because I use two profiles, a gaming profile and a casual profile. On my copperhead, I just press a button at the bottom side of the mouse to change from gaming to casual and vice versa. I really don’t want to go to the software interface every time I change profiles but I don’t really have a choice. But we must keep in mind that this is a MOBILE gaming mouse, so there will be limitations such as this one.

The one thing that makes this mouse special is the EASYSHIFT[+] function. I don’t really know how to explain this well, so I’ll just put some pictures on how it works.

So even though the Roccat Pyra only has 5 buttons, you can actually DO MORE with this 5 buttons. From as simple as copy and pasting, to complicated game commands, it’s all possible.

Now, why would you want this mouse? Well, it’s small and easy to carry. It’s great for office use as well as for gaming. You can buy this for your laptop and/or for your lan parties since it comes with it’s own neat bag. Or you can just simply buy it for bragging rights since the blue light is just awesome to look at. Anyway, I don’t think you can go wrong with the Roccat Pyra. It’s small, compact, and surprisingly packed with awesome features like the EASYSHIFT.

Tron 2: Legacy

By personal · Comments View Comments

With my current problem in work and in the family, sometimes I just need to stop listening to the bad news and the stress. Sometimes I just need to cheer up, finish my daily quota of coffee or have a healthy sex with some hot SNSD chick. But sometimes we don’t really have the time to go out of the workplace and the good news can only be brought right in front of our fucking email and newsletters. I am so tired of looking in front of this monitor for like 3 months – 15 hours a day. I’m writing this as a way to unwind from my troubles and to share some really awesome news.

So, a few weeks ago, the world was awed with the new teaser trailer of Tron 2 Legacy. Well what exactly is Tron and where was the first one? Taken from wiki (stripped off some TL;DRs for your convenience):

Tron is a 1982 American action science fiction film by Walt Disney PicturesTron has a distinctive visual style, as it was one of the first films from a major studio to use computer graphics extensively. Decades after it first came out, it spawned a franchise consisting of sequel films, videogames, comics and a planned television series.

To put things short, this is what Tron looked like back in 1982 with the Lightcycle in highlight:

Well as you can see, it does look like some cheap-ass Quake 1 rendering but this was back when computer graphics was in its infancy. This is what Transformers, Avatar or District 9 was made of and this is MUCH COOLER than Michael Bay’s work. The graphics may look cheesy but there’s one thing this movie never lacked: A Cyberpunk theme that did an significant strike in Pop Culture. Now this is what Tron 2 looks like:

Man, someday I'll be driving one of these in the freeway

Here’s a link on the very first trailer which I can’t embed because the author was a dick: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AwvuirSEAA&feature=related

Now why am I crazed on this Tron fad? You might say “WELL YOU WEREN’T BORN IN THE 80′s, WHY ARE YOU BEING SO OLD?”. Well its because I have some cyber-genetically altered erections when it comes to cyberpunk themes and neon lights that made the 80′s. I admit I haven’t watched the first Tron but I will watch it when I have the time.

Daft Punk? In my Tron 2 Musical Score? OMG!!!

Another thing why I love tron is that Daft Punk is doing the musical score and will also be having a cameo appearance. The cameo appearance may sound stupid because I have no clue how Daft Punk’s existence in the movie will be canon but let’s see where that goes. Daft Punk’s Digital Perspective totally fits the concept of Tron like a jigsaw puzzle and it will surely be great.

Along with Alice in Wonderland’s release, a new Teaser Trailer for Tron 2 was released which reveals a lot of the movie. Drools, awe and anticipations are welcome

One last thing that I love about Tron 2 is that, IT’S GOING TO BE AN AWESOME BIRTHDAY GIFT. It will be on theaters at December 17, 2010 and my birthday is in December 18, 2010.

Now to stop dishing out my broken English grammar because I’m really sleepy while writing this and I can’t think damn straight, I am concluding this post with joy and awe.

PS: Because of inconsistencies with this blog on Google Chrome, I have resized the images to smaller ones. Next time, I’m going to resize the images manually to its optimum resolutions.

We all know that there are a lot of great games coming out this year, but we really cannot ignore Civilization V. In fact, I really can’t think of another franchise which had ruined lives as much as the Civ series. There’s even a dedicated website to help people break away from their Civ addictions. But with the release of this trailer, mehhh.

Anyway, here’s the epic trailer.

So be sure to catch Civilization V when it’s released Q4 of 2010.

Starcraft II

Basically this is a hack which lets you play Starcraft II offline with AI. It’s pretty neat and definitely worth a try if you’re a hardcore fan of the franchise.

I. Download this http://www.demonoid….details/2153737 This link requires a bittorrent client
If you already have Starcraft 2, download this http://www.demonoid….54199/41360922/

II.Unpack Starcraft2_beta_installer.rar and run the installer.

III. Run the game and wait for the update. Once the update is done, close the game AND DO NOT OPEN STAR CRAFT II. ONLY UPDATE ONCE

IV. Unpack lazyLauncher.zip any where you want. Your AV might act up and say it’s a virus but it’s not.

V. Download AI maps here: http://www.nibbits.com/sc2/maps/ (unzip them anywhere)

VI. Download AI Difficulty Files:

Very Easy: http://www.mediafire.com/?hjoalmoyyjt
Easy: http://www.mediafire.com/?mwtn5k5unif
Medium: http://www.mediafire.com/?mz4ymygnngy
Hard: http://www.mediafire.com/?dzdeznohxzi
Very Hard: http://www.mediafire.com/?fdnokjxnndg
Insane: http://www.mediafire.com/?cdorwymlfmj
Original: http://www.mediafire.com/?wzwmo2n22wb

Unpack the selected difficulty.

Copy “Base.SC2Data” to “StarCraft II Beta\Mods\Liberty.SC2Mod” When prompted, overwrite the existing file.

VI. Run LazyLaucher.exe and choose a map(go to where you extracted those AI map packs).

We’ve tested this and everything works fine. If you can’t get it to work, then there’s a 99.5% chance that it’s your fault. Keep in mind that this is offline SINGLEPLAYER play only. Though it’s pretty obvious, I just wanted to state that to avoid unnecessary questions like “How do I play LAN with a friend?”

You CAN certainly wait until the official release but…. if you’re a douche like us, why wait?

My PLDT Bill

By personal · Comments View Comments

So here comes a day where I normally wake up, take a bath, eat then sit in front of my computer doing all of my work at home (well I work at home because my employer is my own Dad). So I checked the time, its 2PM and I went to my bed for a little rest.

About 15 minutes later, I heard someone is knocking on our door. So I went up and I checked, its the mailman. I received a bill from PLDT that’s actually named to me. I was wondering if I should open it up or should I just leave it, then I opened it because I’m curious if mom paid the previous bill. Then I checked the balance and there came the horror

HNNNNNNNNNNNNNNGHHHH WTF

To my dismay, I found out that my current bill is 4,810.00 PESOS which is equivalent to 5 months(990 pesos per month) of overdue bills. Now, I don’t recall receiving any bill from PLDT last December and I do recall asking mom if she has paid the bills or not, she said she paid its because she pays my bills, not me. The account is just named to me.

Who wouldn’t find this disappointing? If its true that mom lied to me and she hasn’t paid 5 months of the bill then why would PLDT allow this kind of silent debt that I’m building? If I recall correctly, the internet in our cafe got cut off because of 2 overdue accounts. But this? 5 months? Oh come on, you’ve gotta be kidding me.

Aside from the debt problem, I have been experiencing a really bad latency on my internet while connecting to Singapore servers. And just this day, my internet is close to screwed for being really slow, slower than a limping hog. So am I paying this debt or am I going to wait till my internet gets fixed real good? It’s not just me that’s experiencing the really broken speeds but I have friends as well who are disgruntled about it.

Last but not the least, my landline is even close to broken. People can call my landline but I won’t know if they’re calling or not because the phone wont effing RING. If I call people with the landline, I can hear a little static and interference. It’s so broken, I don’t think I should be paying the bill.

About the debt, I’m gonna ask mom if she knows about this. And when I’m already going to pay, PLDT has to make sure that my landline and my internet gets fixed. I don’t want to keep on paying a service that’s broken and hassles you  A LOT. Kiss that PLDT.

Oh well, I hope my internet gets disconnected for a few months so dad would be so disappointed about the work getting halted because the internet got cut. A lot of collaborating developers too would be pissed to find out that the internet connection of my mini-web server is broken. So yeah, wake up call.

Speaking of wake up call, here’s a really nice and sexy song from Maroon 5 titled “Wake Up Call”

Oh, my first post. Thanks for reading. Have a good day and good luck!
